Welcome to a short, easy-to-master, Home based course on basic computer skills. Our goal is to give you a solid foundation. Once you have understood these basics, you will have a clear understanding on which to build your future knowledge of and skill with computers and the Internet. This course is divided into four separate modules: Computer Skills; E-Mail Skills; Word Processing Skills and Web Skills. Each module includes review questions so you can check how much you have learned.

While these skills might seem obvious at first, the fact is that many people never take the time to learn these very important basics. By studying them now, you will both save time later and also improve your daily computer productivity.

This short course will teach you the fundamentals of e-mail, a skill that has become the most popular use of the Internet. E-mail allows you to send a message to anyone with access to the web. In addition, you can attach other files to that message. Thus e-mail allows you to send photographs, music, videos, databases, and spreadsheets around the world to anyone. With a little effort you can also create lists of people so that a group of friends, colleagues or relatives can instantly receive the same message. E-mail is a reliable, convenient, easy to use, instantaneous messaging system that helps us all keep in touch with each other. There are three basic parts to the course. The first teaches how to receive an e-mail message. Then you learn how to send a message. Finally you will acquire skill in attaching digital files to your e-mails. This online course will help you master the fundamental skills involved in word processing. No matter what word processing program you use, there are certain skills that are used in all versions. These skills give you the basics for arranging a text document to be as attractive and organized as possible. In the web pages that follow you will learn about these skills. Please begin by clicking the link to teach you how to use the Enter (or Return) key to add a blank line to your document. Throughout these exercises you can click on the green (back) arrow to move back one screen or on the orange (forward arrow) to move forward one screen. Alternatively you can use the navigation bar provided at the end of each lesson.
